Tech companies are urging Congress this year to consider a tax break designed to entice corporations into bringing billions of dollars in offshore earnings back to the United States.
Previous efforts to lower taxes on the return stateside of these corporate profits — which U.S. companies often house in countries with lower rates — sputtered last year. But new political and economic trade winds have tech leaders hopeful that lawmakers will see a repatriation tax holiday as a worthwhile fiscal remedy, even amid split party control of Washington.
