White House Backs Patent Reform Bill as Debate Continues

The full Senate continued to debate the bipartisan patent reform bill passed by the Judiciary Committee on Tuesday morning as sponsor and Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) urged his colleagues not to let extraneous issues bog down the legislation.
The White House signaled its support for the legislation late Monday, arguing the switch from a first-to-invent to a first-to-file system would simplify the process of acquiring a patent.
