Technology CEO Council Applauds U.S. Department of Homeland Security Action on High-Skilled Visa Rules

Published Tuesday, May 6, 2014

Washington, DC — Technology CEO Council Executive Director Bruce Mehlman issued the following statement today in response to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) decision to authorize employment for spouses of workers on H-1B visas pending green card application and to ease EB-1 visa petition criterion:

The Technology CEO Council welcomes these needed efforts to reduce the regulatory barriers that prevent highly-skilled workers from creating jobs, companies and wealth in America.  By sensibly improving these rules, we can help ensure that the most talented foreign innovators conduct their break-through research right here at home.

Of course these administrative improvements cannot substitute for the bipartisan, commonsense immigration reforms that Congress alone can advance.  The technology industry renews its calls on Congress to pass meaningful immigration reform, and we reiterate our eagerness to work with policy makers on solutions that grow our economy, address our long-term economic needs and improve enforcement of our laws.”
