Solving National Challenges
Technology is pervasive in American life – and therefore it is a fundamental part of the solution to our nation’s greatest challenges. Whether it’s revamping our outdated health -care system, becoming more energy efficient or making our government more productive, technology is a vital piece of every solution.
Technology is already being used to address our major challenges. It has made our highways smarter, cutting down on congestion that wastes gas and increases greenhouse emissions that burden our environment. It’s made our buildings smarter, reducing electricity costs and making our businesses more efficient.
But we have barely scratched the surface of how technology can solve our most pressing problems. It has been estimated that about 90 percent of all scientific knowledge has been generated over just the last 30 years. Both the rate of generation of new technology and the number of workers globally engaged in science and technology may double again over the next 15 years.
It is our responsibility as leaders to harness the power of technology to make the United States, and the world, a better place.
Health Care
In many ways, the United States is the global leader in health care. From the best-trained doctors to the most state-of-the art medical equipment to breakthrough treatments for deadly diseases, Americans expect and often receive the best care anywhere.
Deficit Reduction
America’s growing national debt is undermining our global competitiveness. How we choose to confront and address this challenge will determine our future environment for growth and innovation.
