The Senate this week is expected to debate a long-awaited patent reform bill that small-business groups and independent inventors say favors larger corporations in the race to secure new ideas and technology.
The bill, a bi-partisan effort sponsored by Sens. Patrick Leahy (D., Vt.) and Orrin Hatch (R., Utah) and Chuck Grassley (R., Iowa), was unanimously approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee in early February. It represents the first major overhaul of the U.S. patent system since the 1950s.
